BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK - Junior goalkeeper Sarah Priem of the Marquette University women's lacrosse team was named BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while redshirt-sophomore midfielder Taylor Smith was named to the BIG EAST honor roll, the league office announce today.

Priem earns her first BIG EAST weekly award after making 10 saves with a .588 save percentage en route to leading the Golden Eagles to their first win of the year, a thrilling 8-7 overtime victory over Duquesne on the road last Saturday. The Berwyn, Pennsylvania native's biggest save came in the final seconds of overtime as she denied the opposition and secured the win for MU.

Smith was named to the honor roll after her best performance in a Marquette uniform. The Eagan, Minnesota native scored a career-high four goals, including the game-winner with 1:26 remaining in overtime. Smith tallied three scores in the second half and overtime combined and now leads the Golden Eagles with seven goals on the year.

This marks the second straight week Marquette has been honored by the BIG EAST after freshman attack Riley Hill earned Rookie of the Week accolades a week ago.

The Golden Eagles are preparing for a three-game road trip out West where they will take on UC-Davis (March 8), St. Mary's (March 10) and USC (March 15) before returning home to face Michigan March 20.
