Hayley Baas Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
March 4, 2014
NEW YORK – Sophomore midfielder Hayley Baas of the Marquette University women’s lacrosse team earned the first BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll recognition of her career after helping the Golden Eagles to a 2-1 week with wins over Michigan and Detroit and a loss to No. 4 Northwestern.
“Hayley played a vital role in a 2-0 road trip through Michigan this weekend and our game at Northwestern,” Marquette head coach Meredith Black said. “She showed that she could compete at the highest level against a top-five program and was all over the field at Detroit on Sunday. Julianna Shearer, Amanda Bochniak and Claire Costanza got us going on attack against UDM and it was the play of Baas that allowed us to keep the pressure on them.”
The sophomore midfielder notched her fourth career hat trick in the loss to the Wildcats and posted her fifth in Sunday’s 15-9 win at Detroit. She also added three ground balls, three draw controls and a career-high four caused turnovers against the Titans.
Baas concluded the week’s action with seven goals and one assist for eight points.
MU’s Bochniak also earned honor roll recognition from the league on Feb. 18 after scoring her first collegiate goal in the season opener at Johns Hopkins on Feb. 15.
The Golden Eagles will host Duquesne on Friday, March 7 at Valley Fields for their home opener at 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.
