March 11, 2014
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's lacrosse team will take on Coastal Carolina at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Valley Fields before beginning a two-game road swing. Wednesday's game time was adjusted from the previously scheduled start time of 6 p.m. to accommodate expected temperatures below freezing.
The Golden Eagles (2-3) are coming off a 14-10 loss to Duquesne on Friday afternoon in which freshman Amanda Bochniak and sophomore Kenzie Brown each tallied a hat trick. Marquette was outshot by a slim 24-23 margin and the squads were even in draw controls, but the Dukes held a commanding 24-14 edge in ground balls.
Bochniak was named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll for the second time this season on Tuesday for a performance against Duquesne that also included a pair of assists, bringing her team-leading assist total to eight on the year.
Coastal Carolina lost a close 10-9 contest to George Mason on Monday night at Brooks Stadium. After taking a 7-4 lead, the Chanticleers (2-4) surrendered six second-half goals and the Patriots managed to wind down the remaining time to escape with the one-goal decision.
Sophomore attack Keri White leads CCU with 13 points on 10 goals and three assists, while classmate Sarah Nolan is the Chanticleers' goal leader with 11 on the season. White scored a pair of goals in the Chanticleers' loss to George Mason.
Marquette topped Coastal Carolina, 12-11, on Feb. 17, 2013 for its first win in program history as then-freshman Hayley Baas scored the game winner 1:31 into double overtime. Brown scored a game-high five goals in the victory and tied the contest at 11-11 three minutes into the first overtime period. The Golden Eagles scored the first four goals of the game before CCU knotted the score twice during regulation.
