Since 2013, under the direction of head coach Meredith Black and in cooperation with the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the Golden Eagles have raised over $46,000 towards research and finding a cure.
“This cause is near and dear to my heart since it affected me personally in 2010 when the mother of my best friend and former teammate at Notre Dame lost her battle with pancreatic cancer," Black said. "It was definitely an eye-opening experience.
“Since I arrived at Marquette in 2012, several members of our team and support staff have also been affected in one way or another and it’s been our mission each year to raise awareness and find a cure for this terrible disease.”
Only six out of every 100 people around the world that are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer live to tell about it, making it the lowest relative survival rate of all major cancers.
Marquette women’s lacrosse will host its Sixth Annual PanCAN Awareness Game during the final home contest of the 2018 season when UConn comes to Valley Fields on Saturday, April 28 at 12 p.m. Central time.
From now until the end of the season, the program will ramp up efforts to raise funds towards finding a cure.

PanCAN Mission: The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network is a nationwide network of people dedicated to working together to advance research, support patients and create hope for those affected by pancreatic cancer. In 2010, after seeing too little progress in pancreatic cancer survival in over half a century, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network put a stake in the ground with a bold and aggressive goal to double pancreatic cancer survival by 2020. From our beginning as a three-person nonprofit to our role today as the national leader supporting the pancreatic cancer community, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network has made significant progress fighting this deadly disease.
