Official BIG EAST release

NEW YORK - Marquette University attacker Cate Soccodato has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week after totaling three points in the team's lone game a week ago, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The Huntington, NY native collects her first BIG EAST weekly honor after recording her first career multi-goal game in a 17-11 loss to No. 11/13 Northwestern on the road. Soccodato scored twice in the contest, each goal bringing the deficit to within three goals, while adding an assist and a ground ball, but the nationally-ranked Wildcats were able to pull away late for the win.

Soccodato's seven points on five goals and two assists is currently tied for the Marquette freshman points lead with Grace Gabriel, who claimed BIG EAST Freshman of the Week honors back on Feb. 16.

She and the Golden Eagles will be back in action on Saturday, March 19, as they return home to Valley Fields and play host to Central Michigan in a 12 p.m. Central time start.
