Meyer Named to BIG EAST Honor Roll
March 24, 2015
MILWAUKEE - Marquette University women's lacrosse defender Fran Meyer was named to the BIG EAST Conference weekly honor roll after the Golden Eagles turned in a 1-1 weekend, the league office announced Tuesday.
In a 13-5 win over Detroit on Sunday, March 22, Meyer picked up a game-high five ground balls and two caused turnovers, while helping limit the Titans to just seven second-half shots.
Five ground balls represents a new career-high for the sophomore, who has started all nine games during the 2015 campaign.
Over the weekend, the sophomore picked up a combined six ground balls and caused three turnovers. She is currently leading the squad with 18 ground balls on the season and ranks second in caused turnovers with 10. In nine games, Meyer has matched her ground ball total from all of last year with 18.
The weekly conference award is Meyer's first career accolade.
Meyer leads a defense that surrenders just 8.33 goals per game, which leads all BIG EAST competitors and ranks No. 20 among Division I teams. MU has also posted a 4-1 record when it holds its opponent under 10 goals and has held four of its last six opponents under that mark.
The Golden Eagles (4-5) are in the midst of preparation for the second half of their four-game home stand. First, on Wednesday, March 25, MU welcomes Notre Dame for a 4 p.m. contest at Valley Fields. Then on Saturday, March 28, Villanova travels to Milwaukee to kick off BIG EAST play at 12 p.m.
