Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore Grace Gabriel has been named BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week after a record-tying, six-goal performance over the weekend, the league office announced on Tuesday.

In the Golden Eagles’ narrow overtime setback at Temple on Saturday, Gabriel matched the Marquette record for goals in a game with six, including the game-tying score to force overtime with 2:44 remaining.

The Lancaster, New York, native scored a hat trick in each half to help erase a six-goal deficit and force the extra frame. Gabriel added three draw controls and was 3-for-3 on free position shots.

She ranks fifth in the BIG EAST in goals (26), second in shots (65), fourth in draw controls (43) and leads all league players with eight free-position goals.

Gabriel and the Golden Eagles make their long-awaited return to Valley Fields, when they play host to Villanova in the BIG EAST home opener on Saturday, April 1, at noon Central time.
