Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – For the second time this season Marquette University attacker Grace Gabriel has been named BIG EAST Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

For the third time this season, and the second for Gabriel, a Golden Eagle is honored with Freshman of the Week accolades. Gabriel first won the award back on Feb. 16.

The Lancaster, New York native totaled six draw controls and three ground balls, while scoring a goal and adding an assist in a pair of non-conference games last week. She registered a goal, an assist, two draw controls and a ground ball against No. 5/6 Notre Dame on Monday, following a four-draw control, two-ground ball effort at Denver on Friday.

Gabriel leads all Marquette freshmen with 20 draw controls on the season to go along with nine points on seven goals and two assists.

The Golden Eagles will open BIG EAST action on Saturday, April 2, on the road against Villanova. First draw is set for 11 a.m. Central time.
