Costanza Named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week
April 1, 2014
NEW YORK – Marquette University sophomore attack Claire Costanza was named the BIG EAST Conference Women’s Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday afternoon.
Costanza led the Golden Eagles to a 14-6 victory over Cincinnati in their first BIG EAST Conference game in program history on Friday evening. The sophomore paced Marquette’s offense by registering seven points on four goals and three assists and also picked up three draw controls and corralled a pair of ground balls.
Costanza’s seven points tied for the weekly high among all league players last week with Connecticut’s Lauren Kahn.
The Webster, N.Y., native is the first MU player to earn a player of the week honor by the conference and the third player honored with weekly recognition. Classmate Hayley Baas (March 4) and freshman Amanda Bochniak (Feb. 18, March 11 and 25) have each been named to the league’s weekly honor roll in Marquette’s inaugural BIG EAST season.
The Golden Eagles (5-5) return to action on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT against Georgetown in Washington, D.C.
