April 10, 2018

Official BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – For the second-straight week and third time this season, Marquette University junior Grace Gabriel is the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.

It was another monster week for Gabriel, who registered eight goals and nine points, while adding 11 groundballs, 13 draw controls and a whopping eight caused turnovers en route to a 2-0 week and a 5-0 BIG EAST start for the Golden Eagles. Her groundball and caused turnover totals were league-highs for the week.

The Lancaster, New York, native notched her third sock trick (six goals) of the season and fourth of her career to go along with six groundballs, four draws and a career-high five caused turnovers in a 19-3 win over Butler.

She followed it up with another all-around effort in a thrilling 13-11 win over Vanderbilt on Sunday, totaling two goals and three points, five groundballs, nine draws (season-high) and three caused turnovers.

Her second-half goal with 26:31 remaining was her BIG EAST-leading 51st of the season and erased a once two-goal deficit, while giving Marquette (9-4, 5-0 BIG EAST) a 9-8 lead it did not relinquish.

Marquette travels to No. 6/9 Florida (10-3, 5-0 BIG EAST) on Saturday, April 14, in a matchup that could determine the BIG EAST regular season champion. First draw in Gainesville is scheduled for 11 a.m. Central time.
