Meredith Black Bio
Black, who is currently in her fourth season as head coach of the Golden Eagles, joins the legendary Penn State head coach Missy Doherty, who will also serve as head coach of the Philadelphia franchise. Black will serve as assistant coach of the Force in addition to her current responsibilities at Marquette.
"This is a tremendous opportunity for me and for the sport of women's lacrosse," Black said. "I am so excited and honored to be a part of the inaugural professional league and think this is the start of something really special. There is nothing better than the opportunity for players to continue playing the sport they love after their college careers have ended.
"This league is going to help grow our sport and create more opportunities for young women," Black added. "I am thrilled to have the chance to coach some of the best players in the game and so excited to work with Missy Doherty again. She is an inspiration to me and working along side of her, (assistant coaches) Amy Altig and Alex Kahoe is going to be such a great learning experience for me as well as a lot of fun."
Doherty, who enjoyed a standout playing career at the University of Maryland where she won three national championships, is in her sixth season as the head coach at Penn State and will be the first head coach in Philadelphia Force history.
"I'm so excited to work with Meredith again," Doherty said. "She is a great coach and will bring some dynamic ideas to our offensive unit. It is really exciting to be able to coach the best talent in the country and give women's lacrosse players an opportunity to compete at the next level."
Philadelphia joins Baltimore, Boston and Long Island as the founding four franchises in the UWLX. The season will commence May 28, culminating with the inaugural championship game scheduled for July 30.
