Marquette Closes Out Regular Season at Cincinnati
April 24, 2015
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's lacrosse team closes out the 2015 season at the University of Cincinnati on Saturday, April 25. The Golden Eagles are coming off another impressive come-from-behind effort that fell just short as Georgetown spoiled the home finale and Senior Day by squeaking out an 8-7 win at Hart Park Saturday, April 18.
The season finale match-up against Cincinnati is slated for a noon Central time start on Saturday. Live statistics (GameTracker) and a live video stream will be available courtesy of GoBearcats.com.
Marquette and Cincinnati will meet for the third time in the all-time series. The teams have split the two previous meetings with the home team winning both. The Golden Eagles came away with a 14-6 victory in their last meeting, which also marked the last BIG EAST win for the Blue & Gold.
Last time out, Marquette suffered a disappointing 8-7 loss to Georgetown, which clinched the No. 2 seed in the upcoming BIG EAST tournament. Despite the setback, it was a hard-fought comeback try that saw MU nearly overcome a five-goal deficit. The Golden Eagles scored the game's final four goals before the Hoyas ran out the final 5:45 of regulation to preserve a victory by the narrowest of margins. For the second-straight game, MU outscored its opponent in the second half with a 4-3 advantage over the Hoyas in the final 30 minutes.
Junior defender Elizabeth Goslee made the BIG EAST weekly honor roll after recording three draw controls, three caused turnovers and two ground balls against Georgetown.
Cincinnati enters Saturday with a 2-14 overall mark and, like MU, is seeking its first BIG EAST win in 2015. The Bearcats have dropped nine-straight games, but both of their wins this season have come at home. They are led offensively by Courtney Curtis, who has 39 points this season, including 37 goals, which is third-most in the BIG EAST. Defensively, UC has allowed the most goals of any team in the league, surrendering nearly 14 goals per game.
Last time out, the Bearcats fell victim to Temple at home by a score of 16-3. They were outscored 9-1 in the second half and Curtis recorded two of the team's three goals.
