Women's Lacrosse Ends Inaugural Season at Notre Dame

MILWAUKEE – The inaugural season for the Marquette University women’s lacrosse team will come to a close on Saturday at noon CT when the Golden Eagles take on No. 9/10 Notre Dame at Arlotta Stadium in Notre Dame, Ind.

Marquette (2-14) is coming off a pair of losses to ranked opponents this past weekend at then-No. RV/19 Connecticut, 15-4, and at No. 5/5 Syracuse, 18-6. Freshman Claire Costanza led the Golden Eagles with five of MU’s 10 goals on the trip, including her first career hat trick on Friday, April 19 at UConn.
Despite falling behind the Orange 13-1 at halftime on Sunday, Marquette added five goals in the second half at the Carrier Dome. Freshman goalie Sarah Priem continued to impress in net with 13 saves at Syracuse and currently ranks 13th in NCAA Division I with 129 saves on the season.
The alma mater of Marquette head coach Meredith Black and assistant coach Jackie Doherty, Notre Dame (11-4) enters Saturday’s contest coming off a 10-8 loss to No. 4/4 Northwestern on Wednesday evening. The Irish have lost three-straight games and four of their last five, including three BIG EAST Conference games in that stretch.
Senior attacker Jenny Granger leads ND with 30 goals and 48 points on the season, while goalie Ellie Hilling is Notre Dame’s all-time leader in victories with 43.
The Irish will honor their senior class during a senior day ceremony prior to Saturday’s game at Arlotta Stadium.
