Women's Lacrosse Announces 2016 Team Awards

MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s lacrosse team held its annual end-of-the-year banquet where it honored its 13-member senior class and presented awards to several deserving players from the 2016 season.

The Golden Eagles enjoyed a record-breaking campaign, setting single-season top marks in nearly every statistical category, most notably being overall wins (7) and BIG EAST Conference victories (4).

Senior Hayley Baas was named the team’s MVP after scoring 27 points on 22 goals and five assists, while adding career-highs with 30 ground balls and team-best 28 caused turnovers. The Cincinnati, Ohio native finished her career as Marquette’s all-time leading goal scorer with 88 markers in 68 career games.

Fellow Queen City native, Elizabeth Goslee, claimed the team’s “Hustle Award” for the fourth-consecutive year. Goslee has been an anchor on the Marquette defensive unit throughout her four-year career. She was an All-BIG EAST First Team selection for the first time this season after totaling 19 ground balls and 24 caused turnovers to go along with 11 draw controls.

Earning the team’s “Most Improved” player award was sophomore Alex Gambacorta, who appeared in all 17 games, making 13 starts. She reached double-digits in every defensive category for the first time in her career, totaling 27 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers and 12 draw controls.

This year’s recipient of the “MU Rah Rah” award was senior goalie Emma Salter, who won in her only start of the season against Central Michigan at home. The award is presented to the player that best displays their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the season. 



Marquette also paid homage to their extraordinary class of seniors: Elizabeth Goslee, Molly O’Brien,Hayley Baas, Lauren Hooker, Sarah Priem, Emma Salter, Claire Costanza, Taylor Smith, Kenzie Brown, Emma Kern, Jacqueline Borzillo, Nicole Lankford and Kayce Haverstick.
