Marquette Announces 2013 Women's Lacrosse Signees

MILWAUKEE - Head coach Meredith Black and the Marquette University women's lacrosse team announced its 2013 signing class on Thursday, featuring 10 student-athletes from seven different states.
"I am very excited about this class because they bring a lot of diversity," Black said. "We have players from every position on the field, besides the goalie, and they are all very strong at what they do. I think this class will help take our attack to the next level, but also will be pivotal in our defensive success. They are a fun group of girls who are very passionate about Marquette. They know what it is going to take in order to get our team to the next level and they are all willing to do that."
All 10 future Golden Eagles will have four years of eligibility when they arrive on campus in the summer of 2013.
The class includes three players from New York and a pair from Maryland, while California, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey and Ohio are also represented.
Black on Antolini: "Devyn will be able to help us on the draw, but mostly on attack. She is a very smart attacker who will push others around her to be better. Not only does she see the field well, but she is able to read the situation and make the most out of it. She is tough to stop and has a lot of background knowledge from playing with great teams her whole life."
Prior to Marquette: A three-sport athlete at Babylon High School, where she lettered in lacrosse five times (2008-13) in addition to three times each in basketball and soccer... Holds Babylon record for points in a lacrosse game (11) and most assists (8) ... Through junior season had amassed 125 goals and 103 assists ... Recorded at least one point in all 17 games as a junior, when she helped guide the Lady Panthers to the Suffolk Class C semifinals ... Lacrosse team captain as a junior and senior ... Earned all-county recognition as a sophomore and junior in addition to all-division honors as a freshman, sophomore and junior ... Three-time all-league performer in basketball and finished her career in the top four all-time at Babylon in 3-pointers, free throw percentage and points ... Named to the ESPNHS Watch List prior to junior campaign (2012) ... Played club lacrosse with the Long Island Yellow Jackets.
Personal: Born on July 27, 1995... Daughter of Greg and Keri Antolini... Has three siblings, Nicholas, Shayne and Karlyn ...Mother was a basketball player at Lynchburg College and grandfather was a member of the undefeated 1959 national championship football team at Syracuse ... Plans to major in education or psychology.
Black on Atayan: "Alina has a huge heart. She never stops working and that is what attracted me to her. She will be able to fill any roles we need her to on the field and will do it well. She is versatile and able to play great at multiple positions on the field."
Prior to Marquette: Attended Bronxville High School where she earned four letters in lacrosse... Named an all-league performer as a junior in 2012, as well as a US Lacrosse Academic All-American ... Posted 21 goals, 25 assists, 16 draw controls and 37 ground balls as a junior in 2012 and 10 points (five goals and five assists) and 27 ground balls as a sophomore... Helped the Broncos to a league title as a sophomore in 2011 ... Participated in the US Lacrosse Women's Division National Tournament with the Hudson Valley Team in 2011 and 2012 ... Tri-captain as a senior ... Named to the ESPNHS Watch List prior to junior campaign (2012) ... Played club lacrosse with the Westchester Elite Girls Lacrosse Club from 2007-13 ... Also competed in track and field at Bronxville.
Personal: Born on March 29, 1994... Daughter of Christopher and Rene Atayan ... Has one brother, Ara ... Plans to major in nursing ... First degree black belt in jui jitsu and a second degree black belt in karate ... Youngest sensei in dojo history and has won many tournaments, including the World Goju, NEMAC and Lord of the Tundra.
Black on Barry: "Ari has great speed and will be an outstanding college midfielder. She is capable on both ends of the field and will grow through college to get better. She has excellent game sense and the desire to improve every day. Her athleticism and versatility will help our midfield be successful."
Prior to Marquette: Earned four letters in lacrosse at California High School ... Concluded her senior season with an overall record of 16-7 after falling in the semifinals of the North Coast Section of the state tournament as the No. 4 seed ... Tallied 72 goals and 40 draw controls as a senior in 2013 ... Helped team place third as a senior in the East Bay Athletic League ... All-EBAL Second Team in 2011 as a sophomore ... Scored 199 goals and 240 total points during high school career ... Competed on the club circuit with BearLax
Personal: Barry was born in Mission Viejo, Calif., to Richard and Vara Barry ... Has one older brother, Stefano Kolyouthaphong, who competed in the hurdles at UC-Santa Barbara.
Black on Bianco: "Megan hails from one of the best high school lacrosse teams in the country year in and year out. She is a low defender who is very smart. She is able to play many different types of defense and is very smart while doing it. She works hard and will be a great teammate."
Prior to Marquette: Earned three letters in girls lacrosse at Moorestown High School... Member of the New Jersey Group 3 and Tournament of Champions title team that went 26-0 in 2012 and concluded the season ranked No. 2 in the nation ... Member of Moorestown team that has finished the last 13 seasons ranked in the top 10 nationally and is the winningest lacrosse program in the nation over that time with a .950 winning percentage ... Team tri-captain as a senior in 2013 ... Played club lacrosse with South Jersey Select.
Personal: Born on April 11, 1995... Daughter of Danny and Tracey Bianco ... Has three siblings, Bridget, Danny and Katie ... Sister Bridget plays lacrosse for Northwestern University ... Plans to major in elementary education.
Black on Bochniak: "Amanda is a versatile attacker who sees the field so well. She is a natural lefty, but has the ability to beat her defenders to either side. She knows the game well and will be important to our assisting success on attack."
Prior to Marquette: Team captain as a senior at Maryvale, where she earned four letters in lacrosse ... Part of a squad that was ranked nationally by Inside Lacrosse and Lacrosse Magazine for much of her high school career ... Helped the Lions to an IAAM runner-up finish as a junior in 2012 ... Named a 2013 "Player to Watch" by the Baltimore Sun ... All-time assist leader in Maryville history ... Named to the ESPNHS Watch List prior to junior campaign (2012) ... Participated in Elite 120 Camp in 2012 ... Competed at the Brine All-American National Lacrosse Classic along with fellow 2013 signees Devyn Antolini, Megan Bianco and Marie Cristoforo ... Competed on the club level with TLC ... Also lettered in cross country and track and field.

Black on Cristoforo: "Marie will become a solid defender for us as a hard worker who wants to get better. Her knowledge of the game runs deep having played for a very successful high school team on Long Island. She is also very passionate about the program."
Prior to Marquette: Cristoforo earned two letters in lacrosse at Garden City High School ... Helped Garden City to a state title in 2012 ... Represented Long Island at the US Lacrosse National Tournament ... Participated in Elite 120 Camp in 2012 ... Competed on the club circuit with For the Love of the Game ... Competed at the Brine All-American National Lacrosse Classic along with fellow 2013 signees Devyn Antolini, Megan Bianco and Amanda Bochniak ... Also competed in varsity swimming at Garden City.
Personal: Born to Joseph and Stella Cristoforo ... Has two siblings, Alicia and Joseph ... Active community service participant, including work fighting autism.
Black on Meyer: "Fran is strong and fast and will help us transition the ball from defense to offense. She is an outstanding midfielder who hustles, which fits very nicely into our team philosophy. She will work every day for this program and will make everyone around her better."
Prior to Marquette: Earned four letters in lacrosse at Montini Catholic High School ... Played with the Midwest Girls team at the 2011 and 2012 Under Armour Underclassmen Games ... Member of the Illinois team at the US Lacrosse National Tournament from 2010-12... Montini varsity MVP from 2010-12 ... Earned first team all-state honors as a junior in 2012 ... Helped Montini to the Southwest Suburban Conference titles each of first three seasons and an appearance in the state semifinals in as a freshman in 2010 ... Led the state of Illinois with 39 caused turnovers as a senior in 2012, while also adding 34 goals and 17 assists for 51 points ... Scored 144 goals and picked up 170 ground balls, with 164 draw controls in her first three seasons as a Lady Bronco.
Personal: Born on June 12, 1995... Daughter of Dean and Kathy Meyer... Has three siblings, Shannon, DJ and Todd ... Plans to major in business.
Black on Schoonover: "Kyra has an outstanding first step. She is very quick around the crease and will be able to beat many defenders with her quickness. She handles the ball well and plays the game very smartly. She will help our attack take its game to the next level and will challenge those around her on both the attack and the defense."
Prior to Marquette: Earned three letters in lacrosse at Cleveland Heights High School, where she served as a team captain as a senior ... Named all-district Ohio North as a sophomore and junior ... Helped Tigers to a district championship and state runner-up finish as a junior in 2012 with 53 goals and seven assists on the season ... Played club lacrosse for Ohio Premier ... Also competed for the North Coast Ohio team at the US Lacrosse National Tournament in 2011 and 2012.
Personal: Born in Cleveland, Ohio on Jan. 18, 1995 to John and Yvette Schoonover ... Has one older sister, Erica ... Accumulated a GPA of over a 4.0 in high school and named a 2012 AP Scholar with Distinction ... Plans to major in political science.
Black on Shearer: "Julianna has outstanding speed and great hustle in the midfield. She finds the ball and will be very important to our transition game. In addition, she has a great ability to scrap and win 50/50 balls. I think she will be important to our midfield this season."
Prior to Marquette: Earned three letters in lacrosse at Mount de Sales Academy ... Led the Sailors in scoring each year and was the IAAM leading scorer in 2011 and 2012 ... Selected as an IAAM B All-Conference in 2011 and 2012 ... Helped Mount de Sales to the IAAM B title game in 2011 and 2012, winning the championship in 2011 ... Team captain as a junior and senior ... Competed for the Baltimore Metro Team at the US Lacrosse National Tournament in 2012 ... 2011 Baltimore Sun All-Metro Second Team ... Maryland High School Coaches Association All-Star Game participant in 2012 ... Also earned three letters each in field hockey and indoor track and field ... Competed at The Armory in New York City at the 2013 New Balance Indoor Nationals in the sprint medley relay.
Personal: Born in Baltimore to Mark and Janet Shearer on April 21, 1995 ... Mother was a member of the swimming and diving team at Salisbury University.
Black on Wilson: "Meghan will be another versatile player for us. She will help us most in the midfield, but she will be able to be successful at any position. She works hard and is very smart. We can expect a lot of hustle plays out of Meghan."
Prior to Marquette: Attended Grand Rapids Catholic Central High School where she earned four letters in lacrosse ... Captained the Cougars as a junior and senior ... First team all-state selection in each of her first three seasons at Catholic Central ... Academic all-state and US Lacrosse All-Academic as a junior in 2012 ... US Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention as a junior ... Scored 53 goals as a freshman, 49 goals as a sophomore and 50 goals as a junior ... Conference, regional and MHSAA Division II State Champions in 2011 as a sophomore ... Scored five goals in the state title game as a sophomore ... Played club lacrosse with the Long Island Express and Michigan Cyclones ... Also lettered four times in cross country.
