Abrahamson is Marquette's first Under Armour All-American

MILWAUKEE - Marquette University women's lacrosse 2012 signee Meredith Abrahamson was recently named to the North Team for the 2012 Under Armour All-America Girls Lacrosse Classic to be played on Saturday, June 30 in Towson, Md.

"We are so excited to have Meredith join our team and I am very proud of her for earning this great honor," Marquette head coach Meredith Black said. "She very deserving and it is great to see talent from the Midwest recognized."

Abrahamson, a midfielder from Loyola Academy (Chicago), is the first Marquette player to be honored by inclusion in the annual contest. She is also the lone player in the event from west of Pennsylvania and one of 10 future BIG EAST Conference players.

"Meredith can shoot, score, take the draw, assist, run and play defense," Black said. "She is an all-around player who is going to help us a lot as we get started. Meredith has a strong future, and this is hopefully just the beginning of a great career."

The game features the top 44 senior girls lacrosse players in the country. It will be played at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium at 4 p.m. Central time and televised live on ESPNU.

Abrahamson was also recently named a 2012 First Team Girls All-American by US Lacrosse, as were fellow 2012 signees Haley Baas (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore H.S.) and Lauren Hooker (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids H.S.).

Under Armour All-Americans are selected by a panel of lacrosse experts from Inside Lacrosse Magazine. The year-long selection process includes input from college and high school coaches from across the country as well as nominations from the public.

High School: Abrahamson was a four-year letter winner in lacrosse at Loyola Academy under head coach John Dwyer ... 2012 Under Armour All-American, the first in Marquette women's lacrosse history ... Ranked No. 86 in the Girls' ESPNHS 100 for the class of 2012, the highest ranked player in the Midwest and the 24th-best midfielder in the country ... 2012 US Lacrosse First Team All-American ... 2011 US Lacrosse All-American Honorable Mention ... Recorded 85 goals and 37 assists for 122 points as a senior.... Also notched 33 ground balls, 32 caused turnovers and gained 115 draw controls in 2012 ... Named first team all-state as a junior and senior, while helping the Ramblers to four consecutive state championships ... Competed in the 2011 with the Chicago Metro team at the US Lacrosse National Tournament in Stony Brook, N.Y.... Participated in the Under Armour Underclassmen Tournament prior to both her junior and senior years ... Also played four years of tennis at Loyola, serving as team captain her final two.
