Women's Lacrosse Announces 2018 Team Captains
Nov. 8, 2017
"I am very excited for the announcement of these three captains," Black said. "Allison’s presence on the field as both a player and a leader is unmatched. She sets the example and holds the team accountable to the highest standard. Grace continues to improve every single day and demands the absolute best from herself in every moment. She is an elite example of what it means to be a D1 athlete and having her as a captain will be great for our team to be able to follow her lead.
"Logan is a player on the rise for our program, embodying so many natural leadership skills," Black added. "She will continue to get better and her attitude and ability to connect with others will be important to our team’s success this year."
Lane enters her senior year as the lone returning captain from a year ago. The Asbury, N.J., native has tallied over 50 goals in the past two seasons and finished with 28 points in 2017 despite overcoming injury. She earned All-BIG EAST second team honors in 2017. It was her second-straight year earning all-league accolades, following up a first team selection in 2016.
Lane ranks in the top-10 in nearly every offensive category. She’s third in career draw controls (101), fourth in goals (65), sixth in points (77) and seventh in ground balls (64) and caused turnovers (41).
A junior midfielder from Lancaster, N.Y., Gabriel enjoyed an outstanding sophomore campaign in 2017. In just two seasons, Gabriel set the all-time record for draw controls (106) after setting the single-season record last year with 81.
She was second on the team and eighth in the BIG EAST with 41 goals scored and was a First Team All-BIG EAST and Second Team IWLCA All-West/Midwest Region selection.
Rounding out the captains unit is junior Logan Dobratz. A Lakeville, Minn., native she appeared in 12 games last season and has been twice named to the BIG EAST All-Academic squad. Dobratz also earned the team’s Hustle Award in 2017 as voted on her teammates and coaching staff.
The Golden Eagles open the regular season Feb. 9, at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md. The first of nine home games at Valley Fields will be Feb. 16, vs. Central Michigan.
