The Cardinals took the 1-0 lead into the break, despite having several scoring chances thwarted by sophomore goalkeeper Laura Boyer. "I thought we played poorly in the first half, but give Louisville credit for all their opportunities," said head coach Markus Roeders. "Laura Boyer made a terrific save on a penalty kick, but they were able to take advantage again later in the half." Late in the second half, Meghan Connelly tied the score at the 71:41 mark on a shot to the far post from 18 yards out. It was her fifth goal of the season - and fourth of the weekend. The goal - Thompson's third tally of the season - was also unassisted. "We played on our heels in the first, but turned it around in the second half," added Roeders. "We tried all different kinds of things and Meghan Connelly made a great goal to tie it ,and in overtime, Julie Thompson made a move at midfield, took a shot about 20 yards and out it was the gamewinner." The Golden Eagles held a 16-11 advantage in shots, including a 10-7 edge in shots-on-goal. Boyer played all 100 minutes in goal, making six saves.
"I'm pleased with the result. We put ourselves in a hole early, but this team is incredibly resilient and they fought back," Roeders said.
