MILWAUKEE--The Marquette University women's soccer team returned to spring action this past Sunday, March 30, finishing in a 0-0 draw against Iowa and defeating Milwaukee 3-1 at Engelmann Stadium.

In game one of the day neither the Golden Eagles nor the Hawkeyes were able to find the back of the net, ultimately the game ended in a tie after 60 minutes of play. MU outshot Iowa 12-6.

After a quick turnaround following their matchup against Iowa, the Golden Eagles, despite spotting the Panthers a 1-0 lead, managed to collect a victory over their cross-town rivals. Milwaukee tallied the first goal of the match, but Marquette responded scoring the final three goals of the contest. Freshman Ashley Handwork was the star of the day, notching two goals which helped propel the blue and gold to victory. Fellow freshman Anna Jurken also found the back of the net, scoring the third goal of the match off an assist from freshman Andee Nelson.

"It was a good day for us vs. Iowa and Milwaukee. We definitely improved and were able to work on different areas of our game. I love our intensity, creativity and nwork ethic, said head coach Markus Roeders. "Considering we have now played three teams that were in the NCAA tourney last fall, we have to be excited for our young group and the potential for the future."

The Golden Eagles continue their spring season when they travel to Champaign, Ill. Sunday, April 6, to face off against Illinois, Northwestern and Kentucky in three 40-minute games.
