MILWAUKEE--The Marquette women's soccer team kept its unblemished spring record intact recording wins over Illinois and Northwestern and notching a draw against Kentucky, this past Sunday in Champaign, Ill.

"It was an excellent day for our ladies. We continue to get better. This team is fun to watch, we just need to stay on course and keep getting better every day and have fun," said head coach Markus Roeders. "Defensively, we are tough to break down and having only allowed one goal so far this spring, it shows our discipline, work ethic and how dedicated we are to play on both ends of the field."

In their first action of the day against the Illini, junior Mary Luba converted a penalty kick that ultimately won the game for the Golden Eagles. Luba's penalty shot came after sophomore Ann Marie Lynch was taken down in the box after she received a pass from junior Haley Fritzlen. Both the Golden Eagles and the Illini recorded two shots a piece.

MU defeated yet another Big Ten Conference foe located in the state of Illinois, when it grabbed a 2-0 victory over the Northwestern Wildcats. The Golden Eagles struck early when freshman Liz Bartels scored off a great pass by junior Isabela Carrasco. Soon after Carrasco notched a goal of her own, scoring the final goal of the match. Marquette outshot Northwestern 8-2.

The blue and gold took on Kentucky in their final game in Champaign, both the Wildcats and Golden Eagles were undefeated in the tournament up to this point. Despite outshooting its counterpart 10-3, MU was unable to find the back of the net and ended up notching a 0-0 draw against Kentucky.

The Golden Eagles boast an impressive 4-0-2 record in their 2014 spring campaign, and has faced off against five teams that reached the NCAA tournament last season.

MU returns to action on Wednesday, April 16, when it heads to Madison, Wis. to take the Badgers at 5:30 p.m. Central time.

After their matchup versus Wisconsin, MU concludes its spring action when it travels to South Bend, Ind. for a tilt against the Mexican National Team.
