WSOC falls 4-1 at Wisconsin in exhibition opener
Aug. 10, 2017
MADISON, Wisconsin - Junior Jamie Kutey's tally in the second minute was the lone goal for the Marquette University women's soccer team in a 4-1 loss at Wisconsin on Thursday evening at the McClimon Soccer Complex.
Kutey scored the year's first goal in the second minute on a beautiful ball slotted ahead from Eli Beard. The Overland Park, Kansas native pushed the ball up the left side of the box and placed the ball in the center of the net past UW keeper Caitlyn Clem with a lefty strike.
The goal was Kutey's first in the fall since her BIG EAST All-Freshman Team season in 2015. The junior struggled through illness last preseason and saw only 15 minutes of action as a sophomore.
Wisconsin scored the next three goals to build a 3-1 halftime advantage despite some solid MU pressure in the attacking third.
UW's Dani Rhodes struck three minutes following Kutey's tally after being left alone with MU keeper Maddy Henry to knot things at one. The Badgers scored the final two goals of the frame on a penalty kick and a solid strike from freshman Lauren Rice just inside the far post.
The Golden Eagles return to Marquette on Friday for their annual Fan Fest at Valley Fields with festivities beginning at 5:30 p.m. Regular season play begins Friday, Aug. 18 as No. 2 Stanford heads to Valley Fields for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff.
