No. 12/14 Marquette Tops Northwestern, 1-0, in Overtime

MILWAUKEE - An overtime goal by senior Lindsey Page gave the No.12/14 Marquette University women's soccer team a 1-0 victory over Northwestern Sunday night at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles improve to 2-0 overall on the season.
In the 94th minute of play, senior Rachael Sloan headed the ball to Page who finished her shot from 12 yards out past NU goalkeeper Anna Cassell to the far post. It was Page's first goal of the season. The Golden Eagles generated numerous offensive chances against Northwestern (0-1-0) in the match. MU notched six shots on net including, junior Megan Jaskowiak's blast in the 66th minute. Rachel Brown tallied five shots, including one on goal, as the Golden Eagles outshot the Wildcats, 14-6. Strong backfield play by junior Ally Miller and senior Kerry McBride held the Wildcats to six shots, with only one on net. Senior goalkeeper Natalie Kulla earned her second shutout of the season while only having to make one save. Northwestern's only shot on net came in the 74th minute off freshman Sami Schrakamp's strike from outside the box. The Golden Eagles will be back in action Friday night when they play host to Saint Louis in the first match of the 2011 Milwaukee Cup. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Valley Fields.
