Marquette Downs Milwaukee 4-0 In Non-Conference Action

The Golden Eagles have yet to allow a goal in 2012.

The No. 13/9 Marquette University women's soccer team (2-0-0) received goals from four different players in a 4-0 victory over Milwaukee (1-1-1) Friday night in non-conference action from Valley Fields.


Finding the back of the net for MU were senior Rachael Sloan, junior Kate Reigle, junior Cara Jacobson and senior Ally Miller. Goalkeeper Sofie Schunk picked up her second career shutout in the victory.

Sloan's goal game just 9:35 into the game off as she beat the goalkeeper to the right from eight yards after an assist from junior Maegan Kelly. It was Sloan's second goal of the season.

At 31:04 in the first half, junior Emily Jacobson fed an assist to Reigle who beat UWM's goalkeeper and hit the back of the far post from about 12 yards away. That was the final goal in the first period and the Golden Eagles owned the edge with nine shots to Milwaukee's one.

C. Jacobson scored in the 74th minute of play and hit the back corner of the net on an unassisted goal to extend Marquette's lead to 3-0. Miller sealed the victory with a final goal on an assist from Kelly in the 83rd minutes of action.

Overall, Marquette out-shot the Panthers 21-3 and had 10 shots on goal. The Golden Eagles also took 11 corner kicks.

UWM's goalkeeper tallied six saves in the match.

Marquette will travel to Saint Louis on Sunday, Aug. 26. Kick-off against the Billikens is slated for 5:30 p.m. CT.
