No. 11/12 Marquette Routs North Dakota, 9-0

MILWAUKEE - It was a record-setting day for the No. 11/12 Marquette University women's soccer team. The Golden Eagles scored a Valley Fields' record nine goals in a shut-out win over North Dakota Sunday afternoon. Maegan Kelly matched a program record for goals (four) and points (10) in a match, while Kate Reigle, Rachel Brown, Cara Jacobson, Taylor Madigan and Isabela Carrasco each registered a goal.
With the win, the Golden Eagles improve to 5-1 overall and push their home unbeaten streak to 14 games. North Dakota (2-3) struggled to contain Marquette from the kickoff and allowed five goals in the first 20 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles first goal came just 63 seconds into the match when Reigle served in a ball to Kelly who took three dribbles and knocked it in past North Dakota keeper Kristi Hestdalen from 10 yards out. Kelly's second goal came in the 14th minute after Brown found the Kansas City, Mo., native 15 yards from the net with a cross. Kelly's shot beat Hestdalen to the far post. Riegle tallied her first goal of the season at the 14:27 mark extending MU's lead to 3-0. Kelly was credited with the assist on the play. Before the halftime break, Kelly, Brown and Jacobson scored goals to give Marquette a comfortable 6-0 lead. The Golden Eagles launched 22 shots in the first half and outshot the Fighting Sioux, 39-4, overall. Madigan, Kelly and Carrasco each scored their goals in the second half in the 74, 75th and 80th minutes, respectively, to make it a 9-0 final score. Natalie Kulla and Sofie Schunk spilt the 90 minutes in net with each playing one 45- minute half. Kulla recorded two easy saves, while Schunk did not half to make a stop. MU returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 7 at Milwaukee. The 20th meeting between the cross-town foes will be televised live on the Fox Soccer Channel as the NSCAA Game of the Week. Game Notes
