ANN ARBOR, Mich. - The Marquette women's soccer (1-1-1) team used a strong defensive effort and got nine saves from junior goalkeeper Katie Bissen to earn a 0-0 tie with USC (1-1-1), ranked 15th in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. MU and USC were playing as part of the Nike Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich.

"Considering where we are in the season, tying the 15th ranked team in the country is a positive," head coach Markus Roeders said. "Defensivley, we continue to do a great job. If there is one person to point out right now, it's Katie Bissen. She's rock solid."

Bissen has allowed just one goal this season, that coming on a penalty kick against Dayton. Her goals against average mark sits at 0.31.

USC out shot Marquette 20-6, but the Golden Eagles had chances to score. Freshman midfielder Meghan Connelly led a charge in the first overtime, creating a couple of shot opportunities, but she was unable to find the net.

"We started off well and created some chances," Roeders said. "In the first overtime, Meghan Connelly had a couple of chances, including a point blank shot. We could have won the game there. We made an effort to get more people around the goal and we were successful. We're getting chances and the goals will come."

Marquette returns to action on Sunday, Sept. 7 at 2 p.m. (EDT) against Oakland in Ann Arbor, Mich.
