MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's soccer team (5-5-1, 1-0 BIG EAST) registered its third-consecutive victory, knocking off the Creighton Bluejays 7-2 in its 2014 BIG EAST Conference opener Thursday evening at Valley Fields.

Marquette's seven goals scored are its most since 2011 when it trounced North Dakota 9-0 at Valley Fields. The Golden Eagles move to 9-1 in BIG EAST Conference season openers.

Senior Mary Luba boasted an impressive stat line of two goals and two assists, totaling six points.

The Golden Eagles struck first and never looked back, registering a season-high four goals in the first 45 minutes of action. Senior defender Haley Fritzlen picked an opportune moment to register her first career goal, scoring in the fifth minute against the Bluejays (8-2, 0-1 BIG EAST). Off a cornerkick, Luba played a cross into the box where Fritzlen deflected the ball past Creighton's Danielle Rice. The Golden Eagles scored their second goal of the match just 9 minutes later when Luba notched her second goal of the season. Luba dished the ball to teammate Liz Bartels who possessed it momentarily, until Luba sprung forward to blast the ball past Rice to make it 2-0.

After Creighton's Kirstyn Corder notched her sixth score of the season off of a cornerkick pass from Jill Richgels, Marquette wasted no time to answer its BIG EAST counterparts. In the 26th minute midfielder Ann Marie Lynch sent a line-driving shot attempt that caromed off the bottom right post bouncing out to the right side of the pitch. Liz Bartels scooped the ball up and sent it into the top of the box where senior striker Mady Vicker then pushed it past Creighton's keeper for her first goal of the year.

MU scored its fourth goal in 40th minute when Luba made an excellent play on a free kick attempt. Luba played a finesse pass to Jacie Jermier who sent a line drive into the upper left region of the goal to make it 4-1 Golden Eagles.

Creighton got on the board first in the second stanza when Lauren Sullivan notched her sixth goal of the season unassisted in the 55th minute. The Golden Eagles again responded quickly, just 20 seconds later, when Mary Luba scored her second goal of the evening. Luba completed her night on the pitch with a straight on shot from around 23 yards out.

MU registered its sixth goal of the match in the 59th minute when Meegan Johnston sent a high-arching shot past CU's keeper from 35 yards out off a helper from Ann Marie Lynch. The Golden Eagles tallied their seventh and final goal in the 64th minute when Bartels sprinted up the right side of the pitch and in to the box where she beat Rice.

Marquette played a season-high 25 players on the evening, including senior goalkeeper Sofie Schunk who entered the match in the 63rd minute.

The Golden Eagles return to the pitch this Sunday, Sept. 28, when they conclude their four-game homestand against the Villanova Wildcats. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. Central time.
