No. 9/13 Marquette Earns Fifth Straight Win

MILWAUKEE - The No. 9/13 Marquette University women's soccer team scored two first-half goals en route to a 3-0 win over Providence Friday evening at Valley Fields. Kate Reigle, Kerry McBride and Mary Lubaeach tallied to help MU win its fifth- straight game and improve to 13-2-0 overall and 6-1-0 in BIG EAST play.

The No. 9/13 Marquette University women's soccer team scored two first-half goals en route to a 3-0 win over Providence Friday evening at Valley Fields. Kate Reigle, Kerry McBride and Mary Luba each tallied to help MU win its fifth-straight game and improve to 13-2-0 overall and 6-1-0 in BIG EAST play.


The Golden Eagles fired off four shots before Reigle's header put Marquette on the board in the 16th minute. She finished a deep service by Hishmeh to the far post for MU's first goal of the game.

Marquette scored its next goal at the 33:08 mark on a set piece. After Jenna Roncarati was whistled for a hard foul and given a yellow card, Rachel Brown and Kate Reigle set up Kerry McBride for the free kick. McBride fired her shot to the top shelf out of reach of Caitlin Walker for the score.

Marquette continued to attack and launched 13 shots, including seven on goal, before Luba scored MU's third goal of the game at the in the 81st minute.

Lisa Philbin and Maegan Kelly set up an unmarked Luba near the top of the 18-yard box. Upon receiving the pass from Kelly, Luba took a few dribbles before burying her shot from 10 yards out.

For the game, Marquette outshot the Friars 27-2 and put 14 of those attempts on target. Goalkeeper Natalie Kulla made one save while earning her seventh shutout of the season.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action at Valley Fields on Sunday, Oct. 9 when they host Connecticut at 1 p.m.

Game Notes
• Marquette pushes its home unbeaten streak to 17 games.
Kerry McBride registered her first goal of the season. With McBride's goal, 16 different Golden Eagles have scored at least one goal this season.
• Marquette remains undefeated all-time against Providence with a 5-0-2 overall record.
Natalie Kulla earned her 53rd win and 39th shutout of her career.
• MU's 27 shots were the most the Golden Eagles have registered in BIG EAST play and second most overall this season.
