No. 9/13 Marquette Shuts Down Connecticut 3-0

MILWAUKEE - The No. 9/13 Marquette University women's soccer team used goals from Maegan Kelly, Katie Hishmeh and Lindsey Pageto top Connecticut, 3-0, Sunday afternoon at Valley Fields.

The win is the Golden Eagles sixth straight and helps them to move to 14-2-0 overall (6-1-0 BIG EAST), while the Huskies drop to 6-6-2 overall (3-3-2 BIG EAST).

Kelly tallied what turned out to be the game winner at the 33:09 mark. The Connecticut defense was trying to clear the ball out of its own lower third but Kelly had other plans as she swooped in and stole the ball from a Husky defender. Kelly took a few dribbles before sending her shot low to the far corner from 10 yards out.

Marquette continued to pressure and finished the first half with a 9-6 shots advantage.

The Golden Eagles proved to be too much for the Huskies to handle in the second half and dominated possession, which led to the final two strikes of the game.

Katie Hishmehlaunched her shot from about 40 yards out that UConn goalkeeper Jessica Dulski mishandledand was unable to save to give Marquette a 2-0 lead in the 65th minute. Page scored MU's final goal of the day in the 88th minute. Page received a pass from Kelly near the top of the box, pushed the ball forward and sent her shot out of reach for Dulski from 10 yards out.

Natalie Kullaearned her 40th shutout of her career while making four saves. Marquette out-shot the Huskies 24-8, including a 15-2 mark in the second frame.

The Golden Eagles will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 14 at St. John's. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.

Game Notes
• Marquette is 5-2-0 all-time against Connecticut and has won the last four outings. MU's three goals ties the most it has ever scored against the Huskies.
• Marquette's home unbeaten streak extends to 18 games.
Katie Hishmeh scored her first goal of the season. With Hishmeh's goal, 17 different Golden Eagles have scored at least one goal this season.
•Marquette's six-game win streak is its longest of the season.
Maegan Kelly scored her team-leading 12th goal of the season, while also contributing at least one goal and one assist for the third time this season. Marquette is 16-0-0 when Kelly scores a goal.
Natalie Kulla earned her 54th win and 40th shutout of her career.
