MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's soccer team concluded its 2013-14 season in the first round of the NCAA tournament to Western Michigan in a heartbreaking 1-0 upset on Friday night. It was the first loss at Valley Fields since October 30, 2011.

The opening stanza of the match consisted of a lot of back and forth play between both teams. Senior Cara Jacobson notched the first shot on goal, only to be retrieved by Broncos keeper Michelle Watson. In the final ten minutes of the half, freshman Liz Bartels attempted a shot straight through the center line of the field that was handled by Watson.

The Golden Eagles came out strong in the second half, attacking from the offensive side relentlessly. Marquette had several near chances, including a shot from senior Katie Hishmeh that deflected off the post. MU outshot Western Michigan 17-6 in the contest.

The Broncos' lone shot on goal came from forward Aubrey Sudomier, who scored the game winner unassisted in the 80th minute of the match.

Friday night's loss marked the Golden Eagles first time they failed to advance to the second round of the NCAA tournament since 2009.

MU concludes the season 18-4-0 overall with a BIG EAST regular season title and conference championship title to its name. The Golden Eagles senior class finished as the fifth-winningest group among active senior classes in NCAA Division I.
