Marquette women's soccer head coach Markus Roeders has announced its signing class of 2007. Ten student-athletes have committed to continue their academic and athletic undertakings at Marquette University starting in the fall. The class boasts four area club teammates, two reigning national club champions, plentiful Olympic Development experience and young women who truly emulate the title "student-athlete." The incoming class includes: Rosie Malone-Povolny (St. Paul, Minn.), Lauren Acree (Whitefish Bay, Wis.), Lauren Thut (Kildeer, Ill.), Julia Victor (Shaker Heights, Ohio), Amanda Longo (Mahopac, N.Y.), Kristi Laurenzi (Kenosha, Wis.), Kelsey Lynch (Chicago, Ill.), Natalie Kulla (St. Louis, Mo.), Stephanie Vasos (Fox Point, Wis.), Ashley Bares (Belgium, Wis.). "We are extremely excited that these young ladies have decided to attend Marquette University to further their education and athletic endeavors," said Roeders, who will be entering his 12th season in the fall of '07. "As a group, they are outstanding students, highly talented players and very eager to join our program. Athletically, all of them have experienced the highest level of youth soccer from participation in national, regional ODP events to winning national, regional and state championships with their club programs. Across the board, they have had outstanding club coaching, it gives them a great foundation to make an immediate impact at Marquette University. We are excited about their diversity as players and the flexibility they bring to play multiple positions on the field. Since the day they committed to Marquette, they have shown their support for our team and how well they fit with our Marquette soccer family. These young women are determined to help build on Marquette's success on and off the field, in the BIG EAST Conference and throughout the country. They embrace the pride and tradition that our teams have enjoyed and the team atmosphere that we call `Family'. They are all bright young women and we can't wait for them to join us this fall."

Academic Honors Roeders on Malone-Povolny: "Rosie is extremely versatile in her play. She has an attacking mind-set and is relaxed on the ball. She has a tremendous feel and vision for the game". Malone-Povolny on coming to Marquette: "A Marquette education is not simply a fancy, calligraphy-covered piece of paper received after four years of drudgery. A Marquette education is a promise of four years of priceless lessons learned not only in the challenging classroom setting, but also through self-discovery. This second, and rarer form of learning, only comes when supplied with an environment that is built on the foundations of service, community, and family that Marquette University prides itself in. These enduring principles are clearly translated to the soccer field. Both, the coaches and the players of Marquette, reflect these beliefs in the way they interact with and influence those surrounding them. Not only do Markus, Franky and Dano have an extensive knowledge of soccer, they also possess the exceptional ability of fusing this expertise with their belief that soccer's natural essence, beauty and passion, should be honored through play that emulates principles. At Marquette, in the presence of people who live, learn, and play with passion and love, I can't wait to see how much I will grow."
