Women's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule
Feb. 22, 2012
MILWAUKEE – The Marquette women’s soccer team will play eight matches and host its annual indoor tournament during its 2012 spring season, head coach Markus Roeders announced Wednesday. The schedule features opponents from the BIG EAST, Big Ten and the Horizon League.
“The spring is all about improving and solidifying our foundation for the fall season,” said Roeders. “These upcoming games will help us experiment with various line-ups, formations, and the focus is to improve individually and as a team. It will be fun to play some other teams starting with our indoor tournament on March 4. The team has worked extremely hard already this spring and has embraced the variety of activities. They are eager, ambitious and truly enjoy getting better. If we keep going at the rate we have set out, the sky is the limit for this squad. We should have a lot of fun the rest of this spring and in the future.”
The Golden Eagles will open the spring season with its ninth annual Tournament of Friends on Sunday, March 4 at the Marquette Gym. Five teams will compete, including two teams of current MU players (Blue squad and Gold squad), an MU alumni team, Wis.-Whitewater and Wis-Oshkosh.
The tournament games will feature four field players and a goalkeeper, and played with a futsal ball. It will be a round-robin style tournament with 25-minute games. The top two teams will compete in the championship game at 4 p.m.
Marquette will move outdoors in late March and travel down I-94 to play Illinois State and Loyola in Chicago on Saturday, March. 24. The Golden Eagles will continue their tour of the Prairie State the next weekend when it plays at Illinois and Northwestern.
The Golden Eagles will host Iowa at Valley Fields on Saturday, April 21, at 11 a.m., before finishing up the spring in Madison, Wis., against Wisconsin and Minnesota.
