Women's Soccer Kicks Off Spring Campaign

MILWAUKEE -- The Marquette University women's soccer team will open its spring competition season with its annual `Tournament of Friends' on Saturday, February 28.

The futsal competition will take place in the Marquette Gym all day starting at 9 a.m. in the Marquette Gym. Squads will break up into five teams, going four-on-four plus keepers. Current MU players will divide into Marquette Blue and Marquette Gold, while alumni, the Marquette club soccer team and UW-Whitewater will also participate.

The Golden Eagles will then gear up for outside action on Monday, March 16 as the squad takes on the Chicago RedStars professional team at Valley Fields with kick-off set for 5 p.m. MU last faced the RedStars in March 2013.

Following the RedStars, MU will host Loyola Chicago on Sunday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at Valley Fields. Marquette opened its regular season campaign with a 3-0 victory over the Ramblers. Sophomores Ashley Handwork and Darian Powell collected the goals for MU, with Powell recording two.

Marquette heads to Evanston, Illinois the following week to battle Northwestern on Friday, April 17 at 7 p.m. The last time the Golden Eagles and Wildcats faced off was at Valley Fields in August. Northwestern defeated Marquette 1-0, snapping MU's winning streak on its home turf during the regular season since 2010.

MU will wrap up the spring campaign Saturday, April 25 at Valley Fields as the team welcomes Wisconsin at 11 a.m.
