Dec. 20, 2005

MILWAUKEE - Seniors Julie Thompson and Heather Goranson were honored for their academic and athletic achievements by being named to the 2005 NSCAA/adidas College Women Scholar All-America team.

Thompson was selected to the University Division First Team by virtue of her 3.64 grade-point average in history. Goranson was a Second Team honoree and has a 3.35 GPA in marketing. Both student-athletes earned spots on the NSCAA/adidas Scholar All-Central Region First Team, as well.

"We couldn't be happier that Julie and Heather were named to the Scholar Athlete All-America Team. Their contribution to our team's success this fall and throughout the years has been tremendous." said head coach Markus Roeders. "They have excelled as players on the field, provided outstanding leadership while at Marquette University, and their selection for this prestigious award illustrates their stellar academic achievements in the classroom. We are very proud of them."

To be eligible for consideration for the team, a player must by at least a junior in academic standing, have no less than a 3.30 cumulative grade point average, start at least 50 percent of the team's games and be nominated by an NSCAA member coach.

The 50 honorees will be invited to the NSCAA All-America Luncheon, which will be held on Saturday, Jan. 21, as part of the 2006 NSCAA Convention in Philadelphia, Pa.
