Roeders Honored as 2005 BIG EAST Coach of the Year
Nov. 30, 2005 MILWAUKEE - Head coach Markus Roeders was named 2005 Coach of the Year and six other Golden Eagles were honored at tonight's BIG EAST Women's Soccer banquet, held at the Milwaukee Hilton. Roeders, in his 10th season at the helm of the Blue & Gold, has guided his squad to a 17-2-1 overall record, and a 9-2 league mark this season. Last time out, in a BIG EAST quarterfinal win over Louisville on Oct. 30, Roeders earned his 150th career victory. "I would like to thank my peers, this is a tremendous honor." said Roeders. "But the award is not just me, it is Frank Pelaez, Dano Holcomb, Rob Lestina and Katie Bissen. And most of all, it is the Marquette players. Our success is all because of the hard work you put forth each and every day." It marks the third time Roeders has been honored with conference coaching honors. He earned similar accolades in Conference USA in 1996 and 2000. Six Marquette players were named to the All-BIG EAST team. Senior Sarah Uyenishi and sophomores Laura Boyer and Christy Zwolski were honorable mention picks, while junior Meghan Connelly was a third team selection. Senior Julie Thompson and junior Michelle Pitzl were second team honorees. The No. 11 ranked Golden Eagles return to action when they face off against No. 5 Notre Dame in the second of two BIG EAST semifinal matches tomorrow at 5 p.m. at Valley Fields. The game will be televised live on CSTV.
