Women's Soccer Announces 2006 Spring Schedule
The Marquette women's soccer team, fresh off its appearance in the Sweet 16 round of the 2005 NCAA Championship this past Fall, announced its 2006 Spring Schedule today. Highlighting the slate is a March 10 matchup with the United States Under-20 National Team, in College Station, Tex.
"Our team is excited about the spring season. They have been training hard and we are looking forward to the games and some excellent competition." said head coach Markus Roeders. "These games will help prepare our players for the upcoming fall season and give us a chance to experience with different formations and rotations within the squad." Included in those spring games are some formidable competition, including Ole Miss from the SEC, Missouri from the Big 12, and Minnesota of the Big 10. Additionally, two other Spring opponents - Creighton and Samford - were among the field of 64 in the NCAA Tournament this past fall. "One of the highlights this Spring is obviously the match versus the U.S. Under-20 National Team." added Roeders. "We will embrace the opportunity to play a team that will be competing for the U20 World Cup this fall in Russia." The U.S. U-20's are coming off a successful CONCACAF Final Qualifying Tournament in Mexico at the end of January. The USA won the tournament to secure a berth to the 2006 FIFA U-20 Women's World Championship, held in Russia from Aug. 17-Sept. 3. The 2006 Spring Slate is as follows:
