Team Gold claims Indoor Championship
March 8, 2012
MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's soccer team wrapped up their indoor portion of their spring training with a round-robin indoor tournament on Sunday, March 4. Team Gold prevailed 3-0 over a group of MU women's soccer alumni in the final, while Team Blue fell to the alumni team 6-5 in the semifinals.
"It was an incredible Sunday for our program," head coach Markus Roeders said. "Both of our teams, Blue and Gold, had a great day and the event made us better as we wrap up the indoor portion of our spring and move outdoors."
Roeders was especially impressed by the number of alumni that turned out to play and support the women's team in their final indoor session of the spring.
"We had close to thirty alumni return and join in the games or just stop by and support...they showed how much talent has graced our program over the past 19 seasons and what an incredible bond we have in our Marquette Soccer Family."
Only four field players played at a time in the 25 minute games, and games were played using a futsal ball.
Squads from Wis.-Whitewater and Oshkosh also competed in the tournament.
