MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's soccer team resumes its 2012 spring campaign this weekend with a pair of matches on Saturday, March 24 at Loyola's Soccer Park in Chicago, Ill. The Golden Eagles will face Illinois State at 10 a.m. and play Loyola at noon.

"This weekend is all about getting better, playing some other teams, experimenting with our personnel, building chemistry on the field and still trying to work on winning games. It will be a big step forward in regards to any adjustments we want to make in our training for the rest of the spring. The ladies are excited and it will be nice to finally get some players playing time who couldn't compete or were limited in minutes this past year. Jacie and Shalese will be out there for the first time, Sofie's role has changed as our starting goalie and many others have taken huge strides forward in their development on and off the field. It will be a fun time."

The matches will mark the first time that the team has played outdoors this spring. On March 4, MU held its annual round-robin indoor tournament at the Marquette Gym. Team Gold took the top spot, defeating a group of Marquette women's soccer alumni in the final, 3-0.

Illinois State went 13-6-0 in its 2011 season, losing to Milwaukee, 3-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Redbirds earned a berth into the NCAA Tournament after winning the Missouri Valley Conference regular-season and conference tournament title, respectively.

Loyola posted a 6-10-3 mark last fall under the direction of first-year head coach and former MU men's soccer assistant coach, Barry Bimbi.
