April 16, 2008

MILWAUKEE - Marquette senior forward Allison Mallams has been selected to attend the United States National Team Under 23 training camp April 17-24. Mallams is one of 24 players called to the camp in Portland, Ore.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for Allison," said head coach Markus Roeders. "She is very talented and will do well at the National Team level. "We are excited for her and hopefully the camp will open more doors for her in the future. Allison has trained very hard over the past months to prepare herself, and getting into a competitive environment with the National Team will bring out the best in her. She did very well at Marquette and wish her well."

U.S. U-23 head coach Bill Irwin, who is also the Director of Soccer and head men's soccer coach at the University of Portland, will choose 18 players who will make up the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team roster that will compete for the annual Nordic Cup. The USA has won nine Nordic titles which is held annually during the summer in Northern Europe. This summer's Nordic Cup will be held in Sweden.

While training in Portland under Irwin, the US women will play an exhibition match against the Portland women's side on April 18, at 7 p.m. PT, at the Clive Charles Soccer Complex. Tickets for the event are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets, online at or by phone at (503) 224-4400.

Mallams, who exhausted her eligibility following the 2007 season, was a two-time All-BIG EAST Second Team selection in 2006 and 2007 even though she played in just nine games for the 2007 season. As the team's leading scorer in 2006, Mallams helped the Golden Eagles to advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She is one of seven BIG EAST Players to be invited to the training camp. Mallams will complete her degree course requirements in December.

Mallams joins freshman goalkeeper Natalie Kulla as another Golden Eagle invited to a U.S. Soccer Youth National Team Camp this year.
