MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's soccer team earned a 3-2 win over UW-Milwaukee Thursday evening at Valley Fields. Danielle Martens headed in the game winner in the 119th minute to help Marquette improve to 2-1-2 overall in spring play.

The Golden Eagles had to rally from behind after UWM midfielder Heather Roadhouse scored an early goal just over eight minutes into the first period. About 10 minutes later, Marquette evened the score, 1-1, thanks to an unassisted strike from Lauren Acree. The first half was played pretty even with each team tallying three shots.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the second 45-minute half, but in the non-tradititional spring game format, the Golden Eagles and Panthers played two 15-minute extra frames in which a winner was decided.

Marquette went ahead 2-1 in the 96th minute on a goal by Julia Victor which was assisted by Brittany Bares. UWM's Sarah Hagen answered with a goal of her own with 3:38 to play tying the game, 2-2. Hagen's goal was only one of two shots Marquette allowed in the final 30 minutes of the game.

The Golden Eagles' game winner came with just under two minutes to play. Allison McBride's initial attempt hit the crossbar, but Martens was in front of the goal to retrieve the ball and knock it past UWM's keeper to secure the 3-2 win.

For the game, the Golden Eagles out-shot the Panthers, 16-8, and had an 8-2 advantage on corner kicks.

Marquette will finish off its spring season at the KICKS Against Cancer Women's Collegiate Soccer Invitational Sunday at Solider Field. At the KICKS Against Breast Cancer Invitational, Marquette will play DePaul at 9:45 a.m., and Wisconsin at 3:50 p.m. Tickets for this all-day event are $10 and available at Solider Field Sunday. Other teams participating include Northern Illinois, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Illinois.
