2016 Roster

MILWAUKEE - Head coach Markus Roeders has announced the addition of seven student-athletes to the Marquette University women's soccer program for the 2016 campaign. All seven will arrive on campus this fall and have four seasons of eligibility remaining in Blue & Gold.

"We are very excited that these seven highly talented student-athletes will be joining our Marquette Family," MU head coach Markus Roeders said. "They are fantastic individuals with tremendous soccer backgrounds who strive to excel in the classroom, on the field and in the community. Individually and as a group, they will fit in very well with our current team and provide the foundation for future teams to come. They are skilled, athletic, smart, a joy to be around and should contribute as an incoming freshmen class.

"All of them have played at the highest level of youth soccer by playing on Regional Olympic Development teams and being players on ECNL clubs where they were coached by some of the best youth coaches in the country. All of them come from winning backgrounds, which will help them transition to Marquette and our program."

The seven signees hail from Nebraska and four Midwestern states, including Wisconsin, Illinois, Minnesota and Ohio. The group contains a goalkeeper, Maddy Henry, three primary defenders, Mary Kate Simon, Emily Hess and Maura Weaver, as well as three midfielders/forwards in Erin Johnston, Abby Hess and Josie Fowler.

"It is a great blend of players with Maddy Henry being one of the top goalkeepers coming out of high school," Roeders said. "She will be a freshman but her demeanor, skill-set and poise playing the position is beyond a player arriving at the college level. Maura Weaver, Emily Hess and Mary Kate Simon each provide a defensive presence, winning personalities, high energy levels and toughness, in addition to their willingness to get involved in the attack. Erin Johnston is a crafty and versatile midfielder who has been around our program the longest as the younger sister to rising senior Meegan Johnston. Despite her size, Josie Fowler brings a level of skill, creativity and attacking flair that is hard to stop. Abby Hess brings athleticism, speed and a goal scoring mentality that is truly unique and should flourish at our level."

The Golden Eagles are coming off an 8-8-4 campaign in 2015 and must account for the departures of seniors Jacie Jermier, Ann Marie Lynch and Amanda Engel.

"As our newest 'Family' members, they identify with Marquette, our team's overall mission of what a Marquette player should be and our constant goal to win future championships," Roeders said of the incoming group. "We are looking forward to their arrival and help in our success this fall and in years to come."
