June 29, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS – Marquette University women’s soccer player Erin Holland has been named to the NCAA Division I Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) as the representative of the BIG EAST Conference.

Holland, who will be a junior for the Golden Eagles in the fall, will serve from July 1, 2015 through June 30, 2017. The Cary, Illinois native and 30 representatives from the NCAA’s other Division I conferences meet three times during each calendar year, with a fall meeting typically in November in Indianapolis, a winter meeting in conjunction with the NCAA Convention in January and a four-day summer meeting in July.

“It is fantastic that Erin Holland was selected to the Division I SAAC and she will be a great representative of both Marquette and the BIG EAST,” Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Services Adrienne Ridgeway said of Holland’s appointment. “Since first participating in our STAR (Student’s Taking Active Roles) Freshman Leadership Program, Erin has taken advantage of every opportunity to lead her peers. This past year she was very active with SAAC, taking the lead on several SAAC initiatives and I think that will only continue as she takes on her SAAC Vice President role as well as her role with the NCAA Division I SAAC.”

The appointment generally entails numerous other conference calls and webinars throughout the year.

The mission of the Division I SAAC is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity, protecting student-athlete welfare and fostering a positive student-athlete image. Holland will be responsible for keeping other Marquette and BIG EAST SAAC members educated on the relevant issues at the NCAA level.

Holland saw action in 16 games for the Golden Eagles as a sophomore in 2014 and tallied one goal and one assist.
