MILWAUKEE – The Marquette University women’s soccer team will face No. 14 Wisconsin on Thursday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in exhibition action to kick off the 2015 campaign at the McClimon Soccer Complex in Madison, Wisconsin. The game is open to the public and admission is free. Live coverage will be provided by the official Marquette women’s soccer Twitter account, @MUWomensSoccer.

“The Wisconsin match is the perfect test in preseason,” 20th-year Marquette head coach Markus Roeders said upon release of the schedule. “We can test ourselves against a great opponent and see where we stand without having to travel far. The extra incentive of playing a rival brings out the best in both teams for an exhibition match.”

The Golden Eagles, who are coming off a 10-8-3 campaign in 2014, are receiving votes in the preseason NSCAA Coaches’ Poll and return seven starters in 2015, including returning All-BIG EAST performers Liz Bartels, Morgan Proffitt and Jacie Jermier. Leading goal scorer Darian Powell, also returns for MU up front after notching seven tallies during her first season of competition.

Thursday’s meeting marks the ninth straight season that the two squads have faced off in their respective preseason openers, dating back to the 2007 campaign. The Golden Eagles are 3-2-3 in exhibition action over that stretch and the Badgers have captured each of the previous two contests, including a 1-0 decision last year at Valley Fields.

Wisconsin enters Thursday’s game coming off a program-record 19 victories in 2014 and a Big Ten tournament title. The squad returns three All-Big Ten honorees in NSCAA Second Team All-American Rose Lavelle as well as Kinley McNicoll and Brianna Stelzer.

After returning to Camp Whitcomb, the Golden Eagles will head to Valley Fields on Friday evening for Fan Fest, jointly hosted with the Marquette men’s squad, from 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and includes skill stations and a free Qdoba taco bar.

The regular season opener is scheduled for Friday, Aug. 21 at Valley Fields against Utah at 7 p.m.
