OFFICIAL NSCAA RELEASE

Junior Maegan Kelly of the Marquette University women's soccer team has been named to the Missouri Athletic Club (MAC) Hermann Trophy Watch List, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced Monday afternoon.

The MAC Herman Trophy is the highest individual award in intercollegiate soccer presented annually in January during a banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.

Each list will be narrowed down by NSCAA members from Division I programs to 15 semifinalists by Nov. 29. Member coaches and fans will then vote for their top three choices and the finalists will be announced Dec. 6. The winners will be announced at the awards' banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club on Friday, Jan. 11.

"Maegan has shown that she is one of the top forwards in the country and we hope she can build on her play in 2012 and beyond," head coach Markus Roeders said. "She has an arsenal of ways to finish or set up others. At the same time, she brings excitement and energy to her teammates that others can feed off.

"After last season's double-double in goals and assists, the only player in major conferences to accomplish that, she is ready to take the next step forward," Roeders added. "Considering our overall team talent, Maegan will be one of many players on our team who should rise to this year's challenges."

Kelly, who was also named preseason all-league, matched a school single-season record with 40 points (14G, 12A) in 2011. She is currently ranked seventh all-time at Marquette with 21 goals and is ninth in points (58). The Kansas City, Mo., native was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team in 2011 and was tabbed to the all-rookie squad in 2010.

Kelly joins Christine Exeter of Louisville as the only two BIG EAST competitors named to the watch list.

The Golden Eagles open the 2012 campaign Friday night at 7:30 p.m. CT against St. Bonaventure before hosting nationally ranked Florida State on Sunday at 1 p.m. CT.
