Women’s Soccer Picked Fourth in BIG EAST Preseason Poll

NEW YORK – The Marquette University women’s soccer team has been tabbed fourth in the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Poll, a survey of the league’s head coaches revealed Thursday afternoon, while juniors Liz Bartels and Morgan Proffitt each were named to the conference’s preseason team.
The Golden Eagles, who are one of three BIG EAST programs receiving votes in the NSCAA Preseason Poll, garnered 60 points in the coaches balloting, which is 10 points behind third-place Georgetown and 13 points ahead of Providence.
DePaul and St. John’s each received 73 points and four first-place votes, tying them as the league’s preseason favorites.
Bartels, a midfielder/forward, posted 12 points as a sophomore in 2014 with three goals and a team-high six assists on her way to All-BIG EAST First Team accolades. The Omaha, Nebraska native has played in all 42 matches of her collegiate career and is a two time BIG EAST All-Academic Team selection.
Proffitt earned All-BIG EAST Second Team honors on defense in 2014 while starting in 20 of 21 matches. The Columbus, Indiana native has scored a goal in both collegiate seasons and has also played in all 42 games over the last two campaigns (41 starts).
The Golden Eagles finished fourth in the 2014 regular season standings after reeling off five consecutive regular season titles over the previous five years.
