Marquette women's soccer's class of 2017

The freshman class of the Marquette women’s soccer team has a week of training wrapped up and is looking forward to playing the first exhibition on Thursday at Wisconsin. The squad has spent a week at its annual training headquarters, Camp Whitcomb/Mason and was quickly acclimated to the traditions of Marquette women’s soccer.
The Golden Eagles welcome 11 newcomers to the roster this season, hailing from seven states and with a wealth of accolades behind them.
Liz Bartels – Midfield/Forward- Omaha, Neb. (Skutt Catholic)
Captain three of her four years on the team... Helped her team to two Nebraska Class B High School State Soccer Championships... Set a new school record for goals scored in a season with 31 in 2012, while also racking up 17 assists and 79 total points as a senior... Played club ball for Toro Soccer Club where she played in many elite tournaments... Attended multiple ODP training camps within the US as well as Holland and Costa Rica... Played on the US Region II Regional team for seven years ...In 2012, she helped her team to an EGA State Cup Championships and was named to the all-star team for her age group... Awarded the Golden Boot Award at the Region II ODP camp in 2011.
Why I Chose Marquette: “I chose Marquette because of the team unity and positive and competitive environment. I felt that Frank and Markus and the Marquette team could help me become the best player I want to be.”
Alyssa Devine- Midfield- San Rafael, Calif. (Marin Catholic)
Michel Fernandez- Goalkeeper- Marietta, Ga. (Walton)
Co-captain her junior year and became captain her senior year for soccer... Named an all-league midfielder as a sophomore and junior and earned the Marin Catholic MVP in 2012... Earned team MVP her senior year... Led team in assists... Helped her high school team to an MCAL Championship in 2012, an NCS Championship in 2011 and semifinal and finalist appearances in both tournaments throughout her career... Played for ECNL Rage and Marin FC club teams where she won multiple championships and played in many renowned tournaments... Played for Cal North ODP state team... Attended regional camp four times... Helped her team win the ODP Friendship Cup in Oregon... Her team was a finalist at the ODP National Tournament in Arizona.

Named the soccer captain her senior year... Selected to the NSCAA High School all-region team... Was an all-area first team goalkeeper as a freshman... Played with the Georgia Olympic Development Program from 2006-2012 where she helped her team to a Region III ODP Championship in 2011... Played for NASA Soccer Club on the NASA G12 Elite II team... Won the Georgia State Cup Championship in 2012, National League Championship in 2012, Region III Championship in 2011, U17 Disney Showcase Championship in 2011 and finished third in the nation in 2011 with the NASA G12 Elite II team... Helped her team to a State, Regional and National titles in 2013.Why I Chose Marquette:

Ashley Handwork- Forward- Plainfield, Ill. (Plainfield North)
Earned all-conference, Voyager Media All-Area and Herald News All-Area honors three of her four years as a Tiger... Three-time all-sectional team player... Chicago Tribune High School Player of the Month for March 2011... Named the 2013 Girls Soccer Sun-Times Player of the Year, finishing her final high school season with 39 goals and 11 assists, which brings her to a high school career total of 98 goals and 57 assists...Holds the school record for most goals scored in a single season(39), most goals scored in career(98) and most goals scored in a single game(5). Played for Chicago Fire Juniors and Team Chicago for club soccer... Helped her Chicago Fire squad earn the 2009 U.S. Club Nationals Super Group Runner-Up, 2009 U.S. Youth Soccer Midwest Regional League Championship, 2012 U.S. Youth Soccer Illinois State Cup Championship and 2011 U.S. Club Region 2 Championship... Won the Illinois State Cup Championship, Region 2 Championship, Brondby Cup Championship in Denmark, National League Championships and the Disney Showcase U18 Championship with Team Chicago... Helped her Team Chicago team to a U18 National title in 2013.

Erin Holland – Defense- Cary, Ill. (Cary-Grove)
Was a member of the Eclipse Select Soccer Club, where she played from the U12 level through U18... Captain of her club team all seven years played... Won the Illinois State Cup Championship four of those seven years...Were the Region II Champions in 2009 and took third place at USYSA Nationals in 2009... Helped her team capture three-straight Elite Club National League Flight Challenge A titles, along with multiple top-ten finishes at ECNL Nationals where she was a two-time all-event team honoree... Won the Eclipse Select Club Championship in 2011... Made the Illinois Olympic Development team in 2007 and 2008... An Illinois State Scholar.
Why I Chose Marquette: “I chose Marquette because of the high level of education. I love the family aspect and how close the team and coaches are. I also like the competitiveness of the BIG EAST Conference.”
Anna Jurken – Midfield – Elm Grove, Wis. (Catholic Memorial)
Helped her team to three state championships in her high school career, one in 2009-10 and the other two in 2011-12 and 2012-13... Held the record for most game-winning goals in her junior season that included one in the state semifinal game and one to win the state championship... Earned a second team all-conference honor her junior season... Helped her team receive academic all-American honors for four consecutive seasons... Made the first team all-conference, second team all-state, second team all-area and the Wisconsin Masonic All-Star Team her senior season... Completed her high school soccer career with 12 goals and eight assists... Played for FC Milwaukee and FC Wisconsin Eclipse soccer clubs.

Emilee Mytinger – Forward – Ringle, Wis. (D.C. Everest Senior)
Mytinger was a three-year letter winner in soccer, four-year letter winner in cross country and hockey and one-year letter winner in track at D.C. Everest Senior High School... Captain of her soccer team her junior and senior seasons... Helped her high school team to two regional championship titles... Was the runner-up in the 2012-13 sectional finals with an overtime loss... Helped her hockey team to a State Championship in 2012 and a state finals appearance all four years of high school.
Why I Chose Marquette: “I chose MU because of the atmosphere and beautiful campus. The family environment of the team is so inviting, I couldn’t wait to get here! The quality of academics was also a big part of my choice to come here.”
Molly Pfeiffer – Midfield/Forward – Barrington, Ill. (Barrington)
Named captain her senior year... Earned Rookie of the Year and MVP of the Pepsi Showdown as a freshman year...Was an all-conference, all-area and all-sectional player her sophomore and junior seasons, in addition to being named to the all-state team her junior year... Pfeiffer helped her team to four consecutive regional and sectional titles, a Pepsi Showdown Championship in 2010, and three Mid-Suburban League Conference Championships...Took third place at the state finals her senior year... Earned the Daily Herald Player of the Year...Completed her high school soccer career with 49 goals... Played club ball for FCX North while also playing with the Olympic Development Program for four years... Pfieffer's club team won a US Club Regional Championship along with a US Club National Championship in 2008... In 2012, they were Illinois State Cup semi-finalists.
Why I Chose Marquette: “I chose Marquette because academically and athletically it was a perfect fit for what I was looking for. I was surrounded by people who I could spend my next four years with and I got that feeling on campus that I didn’t find anywhere else. I wanted to be a part of the family.”
Morgan Proffitt – Defense/Midfield – Columbus, Ind. (Columbus North)
Helped her team to three consecutive sectional and regional titles, three consecutive semi-state appearances and runner-up at the state finals in 2010.... Was a three-time first team all-state and all-district and conference player... Nominated for Gatorade Player of the year in 2011 and 2012, despite being injured and out for majority of her senior season... Ranked in the top 20 in the Indiana High School Athletic Association rankings... Scored 31 goals and notched 26 assists in addition to her 309 GF- 41 GA record in her career at Columbus North... Played club ball for Carmel United, an Elite Club Nationals League team where she had a hand in winning the ECNL National B Bracket Championship... Played for the Olympic Development Program Regional Team from 2009 through 2011... Attended the Personal Developmental Program in 2012... Club team finished eighth in the nation in 2013 and was named to the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 Team Ranking list (23)...Was called to attend the U18 U.S. National Team Camp in June of 2012, but suffered an injury prior to attending... Earned academic honors all four years of high school.
Why I Chose Marquette: “I chose Marquette because I loved the family environment. I could tell all of the girls truly care about each other and obviously love to win! The school wasn’t too big and had all of the majors that I was looking for.”
Cali Pyzdrowski – Midfield/Defense – Hinsdale, Ill. (Fenwick)
Helped the Friars to a 3rd place win in the Class 2A State Finals, scoring the lone goal to beat Lemont... Named Player of the Tournament for the Windy City Classic... Earned all-sectional, all-conference and second team all-state as a senior... Played for Eclipse Select Soccer Club...Named co-captain of her team from 2011-2013...Helped her team to two Illinois State Cup Championships in 2008 and 2009, a USYSA Region II Championships in 2009 and an ECNL Club Championship in 2011.
Why I Chose Marquette: “I started looking at Marquette when my brother played here and fell in love with it. I’ve always aspired to be a physical therapist and Marquette’s amazing PT program made it an even more perfect fit for me. The family environment of the team and school also made me want to come here.”
Lisa Roman – Defense – Blue Bell, Pa. (Mount St. Joseph)
Captain of her soccer team her senior year... Started every high school game her junior and senior year, totaling 13 goals with 16 assists in those two seasons... Earned the Magic Award for outstanding contribution to the team both on and off the field, Offensive Player of the Year, League All-star and League-Wide Player of the Year Award for her defensive efforts throughout her high school career... Played club ball for the Olympic Development Program (2008-09), Montgomery United (U9-U16) and FC Delco (U17-U18)...Won multiple state cup championships and other elite tournament championships in her club soccer career... Awarded first team defensive player her U17 season at the Jefferson Cup tournament.

The Golden Eagles will host the annual Fan Fest event on Friday, Aug. 16 beginning at 4:30 p.m. at Valley Fields. Come out and meet the new additions to the roster.
