MILWAUKEE - The Marquette University women's soccer team is ranked No. 15 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason national poll and No. 16 in TopDrawerSoccer.com's poll.

The Golden Eagles, who made their sixth consecutive trip to the NCAA Championship last fall, finished the 2013 season ranked No. 16 by the NSCAA and No. 21 by TopDrawerSoccer.com. Marquette also won its fifth consecutive BIG EAST regular season title and second straight BIG EAST Championship crown last season, and was unanimously picked to repeat as conference champions in the BIG EAST Women's Soccer Preseason Poll a week ago.

This fall, the Golden Eagles will return five starters, including senior midfielder Mary Luba, who was the team's second leading scorer last season with 21 points (eight goals, five assists). An All-BIG EAST Second Team selection in 2013, Luba was unanimously selected to the 2014 Preseason All-BIG EAST team.

Defensively, Marquette will also return junior goalkeeper Amanda Engel. The two-year starter was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team last season, registering seven individual shutouts and four shared shutouts in 21 games. Her career goals against average of 0.61 is already the best in Marquette program history.

The Golden Eagles will kick off their 2014 campaign next Friday, Aug. 22, at 7:30 p.m. against Loyola University Chicago at Valley Fields.
