BIG EAST Release

NEW YORK – Molly Pfeiffer and Amanda Engel were each named to the BIG EAST Conference Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after helping the Marquette University women’s soccer team to a 1-1 opening weekend with a win over Michigan on Sunday.

Pfeiffer, a redshirt sophomore midfielder, posted her first career goal, also the game winner, in the 79th minute against the Wolverines to help the Golden Eagles leave Ann Arbor with a 2-1 victory. The Barrington, Illinois native also recorded the first assist of her career just 34 seconds earlier on freshman Allison Jacobson’s equalizer. It is the first career weekly recognition for Pfeiffer.

Engel played all 182:25 in net for Marquette and allowed two goals against Utah and Michigan while making three saves in each game. The Centennial, Colorado native did not allow a goal in regulation against the Utes on Friday until the overtime winner and held U-M scoreless after a quick strike just over three minutes into play. Michigan had scored eight goals in its season opening win over Eastern Michigan just two days prior.

The Golden Eagles welcome Portland to Valley Fields for a 7:30 p.m. tilt on Friday and also host Boston University at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
