Miller and Sloan Collect BIG EAST Weekly Honors
Aug. 29, 2011
MILWAUKEE - Junior defender Ally Miller and senior forward Rachael Sloan picked up BIG EAST Conference weekly honors following a 2-0 week announced today by league officials. Miller was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week, while Sloan was named to the weekly honor roll.
Miller, the 2011 MKE Cup Tournament MVP, was integral in MU's defensive effort in its two wins over Saint Louis (5-0) and No. RV/23 Long Beach State (2-1) as she helped limit Billikens and the 49ers to seven shots and only three on goal. It is Miller's second defensive player of the week honor of her career. She last collected the honor on Oct. 4, 2010.
Sloan, an all-tournament selection, contributed four points overall on one goal and two assists. She came off the bench to record MU's second goal and assisted the fourth goal in the 5-0 win over the Billikens. She added the assist of Lisa Philbin's game-winning strike in the 2-1 win over the 49ers.
Marquette will take to the road for the first time in the 2011 campaign when it travels to Tallahassee, Fla., to square off with No. 9/11 Florida State Friday, Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT.
