No. 22/25 Marquette Hosts Colgate on Friday

MILWAUKEE--The No. 22/25 Marquette women's soccer team is back in action at Valley Fields on Friday evening to host Colgate at 7 p.m. CT.
The Golden Eagles (4-2) are fresh off of winning the Marquette Invitational last weekend with victories over Saint Mary's (3-0) and Colorado College (3-1). Senior Taylor Madigan was an offensive threat in both contests as she combined to score three goals. In net, goalkeeper Amanda Engel recorded seven saves and allowed just one goal in two games.
Colgate brings a 4-1 record into the Valley. The Raiders won the TD Bank Classic last weekend with victories over New Hampshire and Vermont. The lone loss for Colgate was to Syracuse in a 1-0 shutout. Caroline Brawner and Sidney Parodie lead the squad in scoring with two goal each. Brawner also has one assist.
This is the first meeting between Marquette and Colgate.
Friday is Faculty/staff night at the Valley. All faculty/staff and family members are encouraged to attend and will receive a free concession voucher. It is also Wisconsin Youth Soccer night. Come out with your team, wear your uniform and cheer for the Golden Eagles. Admission is 2-for-1 for all youth wearing their jerseys.
Fans Should Arrive Early: Fans of both teams are encouraged buy tickets in advance and arrive early due to limited seating for home matches. Capacity for men's and women's soccer games at Valley Fields this fall is capped at 500 fans until the ongoing stadium project is finished in early October. Single-game and season tickets can be ordered online at GoMarquette.com/tickets. Purchase of 2013 season tickets includes a Marquette soccer scarf and admission to all home men's and women's soccer matches.
Kelly Watch: Senior Maegan Kelly has 32 career assists through her time at Marquette. She currently ranks second on MU's all-time leaders list with 32 and needs just two more assists to become Marquette's career assists leader. Regina Sekyra (1994-97) currently ranks first with 33 assists.
Tournament Honors: MU won the first annual Marquette Invitational last weekend with a 2-0 weekend. Seniors Taylor Madigan and Katie Hishmeh were named the offensive and defensive MVP's of the tournament, respectively. Classmate Emily Jacobson and junior Mady Vicker earned MU Invitational all-tournament honors. For her performance last weekend, Hishmeh was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll.
Hot Shooting: Marquette is outshooting opponents, 107-57 this season, including a 45-22 shots on goal margin. MU ranks third in the conference with 17.83 shots per contest. In each of the Golden Eagles' four wins this season, they have outshot their opponents.
Welcome to the Valley: The Golden Eagles made their first appearance on their home field, Valley Fields on Friday against Saint Mary's and kept the home winning streak alive. Through the years MU has been tough to beat on its home pitch and own a 40-3-5 record throughout the past four seasons. The Golden Eagles have not lost a game at Valley Fields since Oct. 30, 2011 when they fell to Notre Dame in a BIG EAST Tournament quarterfinals contest- a streak of 14 matches.
Just Score Goals: MU is hard to beat when scoring more than two goals in a game and is 4-0 this season when two or more goals scored. The Golden Eagles defeated Portland State, 3-2, Oakland 4-1, Saint Mary's 3-0 and Colorado College, 3-1. Senior Taylor Madigan leads the squad with four goals this season and nine points. She is tied for third in the BIG EAST.
Weekly Rankings: After a 2-0 week last week, Marquette is back in the top 25 in all four major polls. The Golden Eagles are ranked No. 22 in the NSCAA poll and No. 25 in the Soccer America ranking. MU is also No. 18 and 20 in the TopDrawerSoccer and College Sports Madness polls, respectively.
Up Next: MU will travel to Illinois State on Sunday, Sept. 15 for a 1 p.m. CT kick-off. The two teams met last season in the first round of the NCAA tournament and the Golden Eagles earned a 3-0 victory.
