MU Earns Highest NSCAA Ranking in Program History

MILWAUKEE- The Marquette University women's soccer team has earned its highest national ranking in program history by the National Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) this week as it checked in at No. 8 in coaches' poll.
The Golden Eagles soared four spots to No. 8 in the NSCAA Top 25 and climbed to No. 9 in the Soccer America poll following wins win at then-No. 14 Milwaukee (1-0 in double overtime) and at Indiana (2-1).
Marquette has been ranked as high as No. 9 in the NSCAA Top 25 on Oct. 4, 2005. The Golden Eagles' highest ranking in program history - in either poll - was No. 6 by Soccer America on Oct. 3, 2005.
Marquette also sits atop the Northeast Region for the second time this season.
Sophomore forward Maegan Kelly collected more honors this week as she was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week and selected as a CollegeSoccer360.com Primetime Performer. The sophomore had two goals - one game winner and one game-tying strike. Kelly scored in the 109th minute in a 1-0 victory at then-No. 14/14 Milwaukee on Sept. 7. She also fueled a comeback victory in a 2-1 decision at Indiana on Sept. 11.
Kelly was also honored as the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week and selected to TopDrawerSoccer.com's Team of the Week.
The Golden Eagles begin their BIG EAST American Division title defense Thursday, Sept. 15 at Valley Fields against Pittsburgh at 7 p.m. Following MU's league-opener against the Panthers, Marquette will travel to Morgantown, W.Va. to face American Division favorite, West Virginia, on Sunday, Sept. 18.
